I ate here in a group of six on a Thursday evening in Feb ‘25.
Overall we had a nice evening but thought the service was a little slow and that the food was ok, but not exceptional. From being seated to leaving took almost 2 hours with a main course and pudding.
The mushroom wellington didn’t have a ton of flavour but the meat based dishes went down well. Disappointed that the prosciutto & pear salad had no prosciutto and the jam sponge pudding was unavailable.. both of which we were told after ordering.
The restaurant staff were friendly but obviously very rushed and therefore not easily available. Perfectly fine once you got hold of them though.
Everything slightly greasy and a bit grimy. Not in an awful way, but not in ‘this is a really nice restaurant way’.

An iconic restaurant. Friendly and excellent service from Nicky who was informative about the connection with Lowry and the history of Sam’s Chophious. Excellent food!

Took ages to get served.. was passed over and had to wave my hands at the staff to get served.

Went for a Sunday roast and was going to order the Pork or Beef then the waitress said there were also lamb chops available that were not on the menu. Being a big fan of lamb, myself & my friend ordered them instead to come with all the traditional Sunday roast trimmings.
When the food arrived the veggies, potatoes, gravy, yorkshire pudding were all tasty but the chops were completely inedible, most of it was bone, fat & gristle, about 75%, only 25% was actual edible meat. It was hard to get a staff members attention as they seemed busy, maybe understaffed. No one came to check up on us once the food had arrived. The next time anyone came over was when we had finished.
When the waitress came to clear our plates there was a pile of chewed fat and gristle on my plate. I told her they were not nice at all and to show it to the chefs.
We weren't offered any dessert or anymore drinks during our time there.
I expected her to come back with an answer about the chops or at least a manager to come over but no one did and nothing was ever mentioned.
We paid the bill and left unhappy with the whole experience.

We picked Sam’s Chop House for our first night in Manchester and it was the perfect choice. We wanted some proper local food, plus one of our friends has a gluten allergy, and they promised on their website they could accommodate it—which they did, no problem at all.
The food was amazing and came out quickly, but what really made the experience was the service. Our waitress, Jaye, was an absolute gem—super friendly, attentive and even took the time to give us some great recommendations for drinks afterward, even if the restaurant was packed and we noticed she was super busy. As tourists, that extra touch made all the difference.
If you’re in Manchester and want great British food with top-tier service, this is the place to go. Couldn’t have asked for a better start to our trip!

Not eaten here but they do a fantastic pint of cold Guinness.
Bar staff were lovely and informative about the L S Lowry statue in his place where he used to sit, swapping pencil sketches for pints.

Busy, central, traditional Manchester historical eating experience. Overpriced Sunday roast was excellent food served very efficiently. Meal machine? It felt like it. Not the most relaxing place to go. Disappointed to not get steak & kidney pudding.

Sam 's chophouse has always been a firm favourite with me for many years! It really is an iconic dining and quaffing venue. My most recent visit was with a group of friends and we had the most delightful afternoon! We were so well looked after by the staff, who are all absolutely lovely. The food and service were absolutely perfect. Looking forward to my next visit.
